Let’s Break Out!
I’m currently reading a book which is putting me on a path of change. The book is ON OUR BEST BEHAVIOR by Elise Loehnen. Regardless of your thoughts about religion or spiritual matters, if you are a person who identifies as female or as a woman in universal ways, the seven deadly sins have put us on such a track, we don’t even realize we are on it, especially if you are aware of trying to be a “good” person in the body that you are in. This apple series represents the first four deadly sins and gives us a chance to see these loaded and complex fruits a whole new perspective. Apple #1 represents the chapter on SLOTH, and the fact that we basically deny ourselves REST so that we can be perceived as good and productive in this world. Rest is critical to the body restoring itself, rest is critical for being able to bring your best to any situation, rest is a must, but rarely do any of us prioritize it for ourselves. Let’s change that and give ourselves a chance to truly REST and recharge and restore. It can’t hurt, it can only help us!
Apple #2 represents the chapter on ENVY, and the fact that we have been steeped in the belief that ENVY is evil, but if we allow ourselves to be aware of what is behind envy and jealousy, we can learn that those feelings are telling us what we really want for ourselves. Instead of beating ourselves up for those feelings, figure out how you can use those feelings and information to lead you to your best life. The life you want, the life you deserve. Let’s embrace envy as a path to our own self discovery and make our own magic happen!
Apple #3 represents the chapter on PRIDE and the fact that we can learned that we are always supposed to humble and never take credit for the work we do and/or always give the credit to someone else. Basically we are supposed to shut the fuck up about anything we are successful with. Until we embrace our own talents and what makes us wonderful and unique, we won’t believe that we deserve to be considered worthy. Worthy of praise, worthy of making the same money as other people doing the same jobs. We won’t advocate for ourselves. Let’s get to a place where we let ourselves see the wonder that we are and treasure and even showcase our unique TALENTS to the world. The world needs and wants this from us! Let’s do it!
Apple #4 represents the chapter on GLUTTONY. As you are probably aware this is how many women spend their lives trying to be smaller and smaller and be less and less of a body in this world. Trying to not exist in a way. This usually requires some kind of denial of food, controlling types of food, exercise simply to lose weight rather than to enjoy exercise as a means of feeling and being healthy. Life is short and think of what we could do if we shift our focus to better knowing when we are satisfied, and being truly being grateful for our bodies as they are, not an always striving for what we believe they should look like. That is exhausting! Let’s get off that train!
Now onto finish the book and read the chapters on Greed, Lust, Anger and Sadness.
