R.E.M. Universe Fine Art Print
Back in 1983 a gorgeous thing happened! A band called R.E.M. @rem released an album called Murmur and it was sheer perfection! We were graduating from high school that year and it will always be emblazoned in my mind as connected to that time of happiness, of promise, of excitement with what life could possibly bring? LOVE LOVE LOVE! Perhaps you have a band like this in your life?
Beyond high school, it was the soundtrack for many dorm room and house parties and it always hit the spot! Catapult and Radio Free Europe were absolute favs. R.E.M was formed by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe in Athens Georgia a few years prior.
We got to see them in Portland Oregon back in the day and my parents were very upset because they heard me say R.E.M. and they somehow thought I was going to see so called devil worship music? Not sure exactly what band they thought I was going to see? ACDC is the only thing that comes to mind but as close as they get to that is Highway to Hell? Who knows? LOL!
R.E.M. went onto create a plethora of incredible albums from those humble beginnings and had a very successful career. Back when MTV was a thing they had a couple of big hits that were commercially popular. No matter what they were up to, we were always engaged and interested and wanted to keep up.
This art is a tribute to the buoyant and bouncy and complex music that R.E.M. offered up to us. It was fresh and and new, it was fun, it made us think, it made us get outside of ourselves and feel that the universe was full of possibilities. Thank you R.E.M. and cheers shiny happy kind people! #r.e.m.#billberry #peterbuck #mikemills #michaelstipe #fineartprints #abstractart #murmur #reckoning #fablesofthereconstruction
