Cafe de Flore Tribute Fine Art Print
One of the great delights in my life was getting to go to the Cafe de Flore @lecafedeflore in Paris to enjoy a sparkling glass of wine and a few delicious crisps. Cafe de Flore opened in 1887 and during the 1930s, 1940s, 1960s, 1980s and even today, yes even today, this place has been a haven and a gathering place for people who are doing the big thinking and writing about society, art, theatre, film, fashion, philosophy, sexuality and life in general.
The surrealist movement got established here and so many people that you may have read about hung out here through all these years. Jean Paul-Sarte and Simone du Beauvoir, Ernest Hemingway, Albert Camus, Pablo Picasso, Yves St. Laurent, Jane Fonda, Robert DeNiro to drop just a few names.
I really love a band called Yellow House @yellowhousemusic and a lovely song they wrote called Love In The Time of Socialism. This verse captures what I believe should always be happening at this gorgeous establishment and especially now when the political structure around us leaves so much to be desired for those who are big thinkers and don’t want to abandon the future for past failed ideologies. This song is one of my favs.
“Maybe I was destined for philosophy
Leading leftist ideologies at the Paris-Sorbonne
Dreaming up the splendid demise
Of the societies we despise, at Cafe de Flore”
If you can’t hang out at Cafe de Flore, I encourage you to find your own places of inspiration, of community, of deep thinking and struggling with how to best be yourself in this world and to illuminate art in all its forms to brighten the human experience.
This art is meant to be a tribute for a place that has stood the test of time and continues to gather people who want their thoughts to matter in the world. #cafedeflore #paris #loveinthetimeofsocialism #yellowhousemusic #bigthinkers #artinspiration #fineartprints #abstractart
