Saintly Life of Jim Carroll Writer Fine Art Print
One of the books that I loved in high school was Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll. For a teen trapped in suburbia in Oregon, I was in love in anything having to do with living in New York and anything really to give me a glimpse of what the east coast was like. It is such an excellent book that captures being a kid coming up in New York and the full spectrum of life experiences that are possible there. The good, the bad and the ugly. The excitement, the joys and the sorrows too. It gets rough fast and is an exhilarating and complex book. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger also provided more east coast content, in addition to books written by Paul Zindel , and books written by Marilyn Sachs. Went to see Jim Carroll read poetry once, that was a life highlight for sure.
Jim Carroll was truly an incredible writer, poet and punk musician. Of course I loved their album Catholic Boy which has the memorable song People Who Died. It still rocks to this very day and always will. Do you know Leonardo DiCaprio played Jim Carroll in a Basketball Diary movie? It was okay, but the book was way better, you know how that goes sometimes?
Sadly Jim died of a heart attack at age 60 due to complications from illnesses. Jim was a bright and brilliant star from a very young age that left us too soon. Created dual artwork to honor Jim Carroll, the first inspired by the fine punk stylings of Catholic Boy, where a flash of luminescence holds a place where Jim once was. Here is a picture of our copy of the book, which helped to inspire this second art to capture their writing which wraps us in muted and warm tones. #jimcarroll #basketballdiaries #manhattan #catholicboy #allthepeoplewhodied #abstractart #fineartprints #leonardodicaprio #basketballdiariesmovie
